Outlast with birds

The jumping, etc. gameplay is solid if you like an infinite clime, but what intrigues me is the bizarre atmosphere. Why are all the birds plucked? Why are they homicidal? Why are they piling atop one another like WWZ zombies to chase me with murder in their eyes? Why is this all happening to banjo music?

All in all, a horror masterpiece.
